Announcing a new Meetup for Freedom Riders!
What: FREEDOM RIDERS OCTOBER MEETUP TBA When: October 18, 2009 9:30 AM Where: PARKING LOT CORNER OF MAIN ST & NW 28TH ST Fort Worth, TX 76164 Hey, since this is October, I'm kicking around the idea of visiting some ghost towns. How's that sound? I'll do some research, and/or if someone else wants to, that's fine. Just to see what we come up with. Might be good photo oppourtunities. Hey Dragin'
Not sure where you are on your research... but I found the following link that may help plan out a route - I like it because it has the county listed and you could just pick an area and then hit as many as you could. Just let me know if you want any help or if I could help with any research. http://www.texasescap... |

Yep...I've already seen that page and it looks great. If you want to work up some places and the route that would be fine. Let me know whatcha' come up with, ok? Here's another site I was looking at, too.:

I've clicked on The Pattons web site and found 2 possible Ghost Towns;
1. Thurber, TX, 70 miles W of Ft Worth, On I-20. We could take 180 west out of Weatherford then South on 919 to Gordon, W 193 to Mingus, South 108 to Thurber. 96.5 Miles, 1 hour 47 minutes. 2. Collinsville, TX, 30 miles NE of Denton, Hwy 377 Out of the two I like Thurber, TX, Collinsville is probably too congested. Vote on it or select another location. Big G |

I virtual earth'd Collinsville and the downtown area is the ghostly attraction, really nothing exciting.

I'd been looking at Thurber, too. Mom and Dad used to take us out there all the time to pick up bricks and to look at the hippies on the commune out there. Does that tell you just how LONG ago it was that we used to visit out there??? LOL

Collinsville is not a ghost town... we have established that (I even have living family there) there is a town that used to be called Toadsuck that was partly absorbed by Collinsville. Yep, nothing left standing of good ole Toadsuck... not even the saloon! |

Thurber sounds good. How about a scenic route?
http://maps.google.co... Of course we don't have to use it... I just thought I'd map out something other than highway. FYI - if Mike and Joyce decide to join us on this they live in Weatherford and would probably appreciate a meeting point out that way. |

Looks good to me. About how many miles is it round trip?
I see no problem whatsoever meeting your friends closer to their home so they don't have to backtrack. Just have them meet us somewhere easy to spot from the road..LOL |
